The Township of Tay Municipal Law Enforcement Department is responsible for the enforcement of the Township's By-laws. All complaints are addressed as quickly as possible and in an impartial manner. The Municipal Law Enforcement Departments objectives are:
- to increase public awareness of the municipality's current by-laws;
- to assist residents to become more familiar with their responsibilities and rights as property owners;
- to achieve compliance with our by-laws through education rather than fines.
Non-Urgent Complaints (online)
Example: Noxious weeds, clean yards, property standards.
If a violation is not taking place right now, please use Report A Problem. Online complaints are not monitored 24 hrs a day. If the violation may be over by the time an officer sees your complaint, please follow the urgent complaint process below.
Urgent Complaints (phone)
Examples: Fire infraction, excessive noise, illegal parking, canine control.
If a violation is taking place right now, the best way to deal with your concern in a prompt manner is a phone call to(705) 534-7248 and press "2" for by-law. An officer will be assigned to gather evidence on the issue.
Our By-law Officers require contact information for follow-up, or, depending on the nature of the offence, to provide evidence and/or to appear as a witness in any court proceeding pertaining to the complaint made. Please note that incomplete forms will not be investigated. Your information will be kept confidential.
In most circumstances you will be able to identify that your complaint has been resolved when the property is no longer in violation.
Should you like an update on what action has been taken with your complaint please contact the Municipal Law Enforcement Department by calling 705-534-7248 and press "2". An officer may provide you with an update or have the investigating officer return your call.
Follow-up information will not be provided to anonymous complaints if investigated.
Please note calls received outside of regular business hours will be responded to the next business day, with priority placed on the nature of the issue.
After hours, if your concern is urgent, please contact the Ontario Provincial Police non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122 for assistance. In the case of an emergency, call 911.
