8000 Expected at Martyr’s Shrine for Pilgrimage Saturday July 20

Tay, Ontario: In partnership with Martyr’s Shrine, Tay Township is advising residents of Tay and neighbouring municipalities of a large pilgrimage that may cause traffic congestion in the Highway 12 and Ogden’s Beach Road area near Port McNicoll this coming Saturday, July 20.

The Martyr’s Shrine will be hosting an expected 8000 people participating in the Tamil Catholic Community Pilgrimage this Saturday.  Participants in the event will be arriving by car and bus and may cause traffic congestion along Highway 12 and Ogden’s Beach Road as they enter Martyr’s Shrine.

Martyr’s Shrine remains open to the public during this weekend’s event.

Tay Township Deputy Fire Chief Shawn Aymer reminds motorists to be cautious in the area this weekend and to avoid distractions while operating your motor vehicle.

Each year Tay Fire and Emergency Services responds to numerous motor vehicle collisions, along Highways 12 & 400, caused by inattentive drivers not being prepared for changing road conditions and traffic congestion.  During the summer months traffic volumes and congestion in the area increase and so do the number of unnecessary collisions.  If you need to talk or text, pull over and park in a safe location.
