The Tay Township Seniors Advisory Committee presents Seniors Talk: The Cost of Healthy Eating

Explore the critical connection between food costs, household food insecurity, and nutrition in our informative session. During the first part of the presentation, we'll provide an overview of why and how the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) monitors food affordability in our region and its relation to household food insecurity. Our presenters will describe food insecurity, its associated health impacts, and actions to reduce the issue. In the second part, we'll focus on healthy eating and food budgeting basics for seniors, offering tips on finding a Registered Dietitian for personalized health-related questions. Join us to gain insights and tools for maintaining your nutritional well-being while managing food costs.
Lesley McMullin is a Public Health Dietitian with eight years of experience at the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, where she's actively involved with the Ontario Dietitians in Public Health, focusing on addressing food insecurity and promoting healthy eating through policy development.
Mary Brodeur has been a Public Health Nurse at the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit for the past 22 years. She currently works on the Chronic Disease Prevention Program and previously worked with the Healthy Babies Health Children program at the Health Unit. Mary has worked in a variety of roles as a Registered Nurse, including management in the Long-Term Care sector. She is an active participant on a number of municipal committees in the North Simcoe region.
