2022 Annual Report
During the August Modernization and Corporate Initiatives Committee meeting staff presented the second edition of the Tay Township Annual Report. The report highlights just a few of the Township’s accomplishments in 2021 and what residents can look forward to in 2022, as well as detailed information on the financial health of the municipality. This edition also includes a section called “Community in Action” highlighting some of the activities and community events that took place in 2021. The continuation of this publication once again supports the goal set out by Council in the Strategic Plan, to increase communication between the Township and residents. The booklet was bulk mailed to properties throughout Tay and is also available digitally on our website at tay.ca/budget.
Pollinator Friendly Gardens
Council directed staff to proceed with consultation to modernize the Clean Yards By-law to include such things as a framework of biodiversity and a list of prohibited plants. Staff will investigate further the current By-law and the understanding of what makes an aesthetically pleasing yard to include Pollinator Friendly Gardens and NO MOW May. The new By-law will look to create a balance between personal health and safety from prohibited plants, encouraging Pollinator Friendly Gardens and ensuring that owners and occupants maintain their Turf grass.
Draven Alert
On June 14, 2022 divers located the body of 11-year-old Draven Graham in the Scugog River in Lindsay Ontario. The City of Kawartha Lakes Police Services said Draven, who was reported missing from his home was autistic and had a sensory irritation to touch and would not answer to his name. Council endorsed the Notice of Motion put forward by Councillor Raymond in support of creating an Amber Alert system for missing autistic and vulnerable/special needs children. Council endorsed the following:
- That the Minister of the Solicitor General and the Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police, as well as the Premier's Office, be requested to make the necessary changes to the Amber Alert system and create a new alert called the Draven Alert, which will protect vulnerable children who have not been abducted but are at high risk of danger, injury or death and alert the public that they are missing.
- That this motion be sent to the North Simcoe municipalities for endorsement and the County of Simcoe for consideration and endorsement.
Tay Township meets for regular council meetings on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
