Council Highlights – February 23, 2022
Council highlights provide an update of important information discussed at the previous council meeting. Full agendas and minutes are available at tay.ca/calendar
Accessible Picnic Tables
Victoria Harbour, Port McNicoll, Waubaushene and Waverley will each be getting a new metal ADA picnic table, which will allow for wheelchair access this coming Spring. The Seniors Advisory Committee presented an update to Council which included this great news. The total cost of the benches is around $6,413 with $5,500 covered by the Inclusive Community Grant, applied for and received by a partnership between March of Dimes Canada and Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle. The Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facility Services will work with the committee to decide on exact placement of the picnic tables, which will be purchased before the end of March.
Addition of Underbody Scraper Blade to 2023 Snow Plough Truck
Council previously approved the purchase of two combination Sander/Plough Trucks to be purchased immediately and one for the spring of 2023. Staff brought forward a report requesting an additional $17,514 to add an ice ripping underbody scraper blade to the third plough truck, slated to arrive in the Spring of 2023. The Township currently uses the Grader for this type of work, but because the Township is so wide spread it is difficult to get to all the required areas. The extra equipment will assist in removing snow pack and ice buildup from roadways, and will allow the truck to become a multi-use piece capable of ploughing, sanding and scraping at the same time.
Enjoy Your Stay in Tay Community Guide Advertising Opportunity
Council approved the plan to offer advertising in the 2022 edition of the Enjoy Your Stay in Tay Community Guide. The guide covers a quick history of the area, local attractions, and a quick overview of our community standards. The 2021 guide was mailed to all known short-term rental accommodations in Tay Township, copies were made available at the municipal office and a digital version was made available on the municipal website. This guide was met with positive feedback from community members and visitors, and the booklet will once again be mailed to all known Short-Term Rental Accommodations in Tay Township, as well as placed in the Tourist Information Kiosks, local Library branches and tourist information offices in neighbouring municipalities. Fire Services Delivery Review
Simcoe County Council conducted a comprehensive review of Fire Services in Simcoe County to help identify possible efficiencies and preferred Service Delivery models including regional and sub-regional service models. Pomax Consulting Inc. was selected to complete the review, which started in May 2021. As a result, 10 recommendations were provided. The County Task Force is now seeking formal input from member municipalities, including Tay Township, you can review the recommendations and staff’s comments on each in detail at tay.ca/calendar. A review of this kind encourages increased collaboration with our neighbours, and helps to identify possible efficiencies and assess the effectiveness of current and proposed Service Delivery models. Council directed staff to submit a written response to the various recommendations outlined in the Pomax report by February 28, 2022.
Tay Township meets for regular council meetings on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
