Tay Community Rink Opening for 2021 Season
Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facility Services Bryan Anderson presented a report to Council outlining the steps and guidelines that will be in place for the opening of the Tay Community Rink this winter season. The rink will officially open on November 15, 2021, bookings will be done online at tay.ca/rinks. In order to comply with Ontario regulations related to COVID-19, while maximizing the utilization of the rink facility, proof of vaccination will be required for anyone over 12 years of age. In consultation with the Province of Ontario’s Roadmap to Reopen and the COVID-19 Public Health Guidance for Outdoor Recreational Amenities set out by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, staff will be checking proof of vaccination (ie. proof of identity and vaccine receipt or enhanced COVID-19 vaccine certificate with QR code) upon entry to the rink. Waubaushene Community Space Ad-Hoc Committee Update to Council
Members of the Waubaushene Community Space (WCS) Ad-Hoc Committee presented a detailed review of Community Space options for the Waubaushene Area to Council. The presentation provided information pertaining to Township demographics, recent survey results (specific to Waubaushene) and potential options that could be looked at moving forward. Council provided input and comments, and directed the WCS Ad-Hoc Committee to meet with and collect comments from the Waubaushene Action Group (WAG) and Waubaushene Recreation Committee in early November. 216 Albert Street (Old Victoria Harbour Fire Hall) to be sold
Council approved the recommendation by staff to sell the building at 216 Albert Street, known as the old Victoria Harbour Fire Hall. The building transitioned from a Fire Station to a Tay Township Operational Services workshop/storage building, and although structurally sound, is in need of interior and roof repairs. Council agreed to sell the building as is, and use the money from the sale of the building towards a more suitable solution for Operational Services equipment storage. Council calls on all levels of government to help manage invasive Phragmites
Council passed a resolution drafted in partnership with Georgian Bay Forever in support of requesting all levels of government to aid in managing invasive Phragmites. The plant has been identified as Canada’s worst invasive plant species by Agriculture and Agrifood Canada. The Georgian Bay area is particularly affected by Phragmites, threatening valuable infrastructure and wetland areas. A copy of the resolution will be sent to the Ontario Minister of Environment and Climate Change Canada, as well as the Severn Sound Environmental Association, partner Municipalities, the Minister of Transportation and Local MP and MPP.
