OPP and Tay Township warn of local phone scam
From: Southern Georgian Bay Detachment
Tay, Ontario: Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and the Staff of the Township of Tay would like to take a moment to inform the community of a phone scam that has come to light in the Tay Township area.
A male has been calling Tay Township households this week falsely identifying himself to be a member of the Tay Fire and Emergency Services Department asking for financial donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Tay Fire and Emergency Services is not fund raising at this time and only collects funds during the annual "Boot Drive" which is a publicized public event held on the roadway in front of the Victoria Harbour Fire Station.
Officers and township staff suggest that anyone who is solicited to make a donation over the phone by an unknown person is urged to contact the organization being identified to confirm the validity of the request prior to providing any personal information or financial support to the caller if you should wish to do so.
