Reminder: ATV use in Tay Township
Residents and visitors are reminded of the rules around all-terrain vehicle (ATV) use on municipal roads and the Tay Shore Trail.
Effective January 1 to December 31, 2026, ATVs are permitted on designated municipal roads as part of a one-year pilot project approved by Council. This initiative supports improved access to trail networks while ensuring safe and responsible use.
ATVs are not permitted on the Tay Shore Trail at any time.
In addition to the ATV road access pilot project, Council also approved a separate one-year winter pilot project for a designated section of the Tay Shore Trail. During the 2025-2026 winter season, the trail segment from Triple Bay Road to Duffy Drive will be groomed and maintained by the Georgian Bay Snowriders Club and designated as a multi-use trail.
This winter pilot project applies only to that specific trail segment, only during the winter season, and only when the trail is open and properly groomed. Motorized vehicles are not permitted on any other sections of the Tay Shore Trail or at any other time of year.
All trail users are asked to follow posted signage, respect other users, and operate safely to ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone.
The Township recognizes that upcoming ATV-related events may lead to questions about permitted uses. Participation in these events does not change municipal regulations regarding where ATVs may operate.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to follow all applicable requirements under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act when operating ATVs on municipal roads, including licensing, insurance, helmets, and safe operation.
