Tay Township Council Approves 2023 Budget
Tay, Ontario – On April 26, 2023 Tay Township Council approved the Township’s 2023 budget that includes $9.1 million in taxation and $6.1 million in water & wastewater rates and levies.
Tay Township’s municipal tax increase for 2023 is 5.13%. The overall residential property tax bill impact for 2023, including County and Education taxes, is at 4%. For an average home in Tay assessed at $241,212 this will mean an increase of $8.82/month.
The Township’s annual budget also includes funding from reserves, grants, development charges and investments which all contribute to funding municipal services and construction projects. In 2023 Tay has planned to undertake $18.1 million in capital projects. While water rates will remain the same in 2023 as they were in 2022, wastewater system users will see a 4% increase to rates or $3.25/month for a single family home.
Mayor Ted Walker noted that “once again Council put forth considerable thought into how the Township delivers the quality services that our residents rely on every day while continuing to recognize the need for financial constraint during a time when households and the Township face significant inflationary pressures. I believe Council and Staff have developed a budget that strikes a balance between fiscal responsibility and fostering a thriving and vibrant community.”
Budget Highlights
Pumper Port McNicoll Fire Hall
The Township will acquire a new water tanker truck for Fire Hall 4. This new truck will replace the existing 20 year-old water tanker truck.
Sidewalk Tractor
The Township will invest in a new sidewalk tractor, ensuring snow clearing operations continue to be safe efficient and effective. This proactive decision will also keep the existing older unit in house as a spare for breakdowns.
Tay Shore Trail Signage Update
Signs along the Tay Shore Trail will be updated in 2023, helping to keep this popular trail in top shape for all users.
Waverley Park Play Structure
Replacement of the current play structure with a new structure that meets current accessibility requirements.
Tay Township is committed to delivering responsive and cost-effective municipal services and infrastructure that provide for the long-term economic, social and environmental well-being of its residents and community.
