Tay Township Unveils New Street Sign in Honour of Dr. Charles Talbot

Tay, Ontario: Tay Township is proud to honour the legacy of Dr. Charles Talbot with the official naming of the new roadway into Talbot Park as “Dr. Talbot Way,” unveiled on November 14, 2025. This roadway, providing additional access to Talbot Park in Port McNicoll, serves as a lasting tribute to his contributions to youth sports and the community.
“We are honoured to celebrate Dr. Talbot’s legacy with the installation of a ‘Dr. Talbot Way’ street sign. His unwavering dedication to creating opportunities for young people in sports truly reflects the spirit of a community builder,” said Mayor Ted Walker.
During his lifetime, Dr. Talbot worked tirelessly to ensure that every child who was interested in sports, especially baseball and hockey, could participate. He served with the Midland Minor Hockey Association, was team doctor for the Midland Flyers in the 1960s, and created a minor hockey league at the Midland Arena for Port McNicoll boys. Most notably, he personally funded summer hockey and equipment for talented youth who could not afford the sport.
Dr. Talbot also supported local baseball through the purchase of uniforms and trophies and played a key role in creating the ball diamond now known as Talbot Park, later named in his honour by the Port McNicoll Lions Club.
Dr. Talbot was posthumously inducted into the Midland Sports Hall of Fame in the year 2000 in recognition of his contributions.
