Age-Friendly Community>
An age-friendly community is designed to help people live safely, enjoy good health, and stay involved.
The Plan was created with the support and direction of Tay Township Staff and the Seniors Advisory Committee. Special thanks to community residents and organizations who shared their personal experiences and insights to inform this Plan. The experiences of all contributors have provided guidance in developing a vision and path that will lead the Township in becoming a more age-friendly community for all.
Project Background
As Canada’s senior population continues to grow, it’s more important than ever to support the health and wellbeing of older Canadians. That’s why the Township of Tay is taking steps to become a more age-friendly community, where all residents can be active and engaged members of the community at every stage of life.
An age-friendly community is designed to help people live safely, enjoy good health and stay involved. As part of its Global Age-friendly Cities Project, the World Health Organization (WHO) identifies eight key areas of community life that can become more age-friendly:
- Outdoor spaces and buildings
- Transportation
- Housing
- Respect and social inclusion
- Civic participation and employment
- Communication and information
- Community support and health services
- Social participation
